Record a call and request its transcript

Record a meeting, open its saved recording, and request a transcript you can follow during playback.

Meetings and recordings

Record a meeting when you need to replay the discussion. Request a transcript of the saved recording to read the words and jump to a passage.

Before you start

You need an active workspace membership and Can edit or Full access on the meeting through your own permissions to start or stop recording. The workspace also needs available storage to save the recording; see Pricing for allowances. Requesting a transcript needs Can edit or Full access on the recording. Direct message calls cannot be recorded.

Record the meeting

  1. Open the meeting and select Join call.
  2. Select Record in the call controls.
  3. Select Stop recording when you have captured the discussion.
  4. Select Leave to return to the meeting lobby.
  5. Open Recordings and select the recording by its name after it finishes processing.

Request and use a transcript

  1. On the saved recording, select Transcribe.
  2. Wait while the button shows Transcribing….
  3. Use Transcript to show or hide the completed transcript.
  4. Select a passage in Transcript to play the video from that point.

Good to know

Transcription starts only when requested. If it fails, select Retry transcript. A call can have one active recording at a time; starting and stopping again produces a separate recording. A recording inherits access from the meeting or channel where it is created.
